Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion for 3DS will resurrect your childhood

Well, it seems that not even video games are immune to the Cartoon Wasteland. This was evidenced in the original Epic Mickey by the Mickey Mousecapade and Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse cartridges lying at the foot of ‘Mickey junk’ Mountain, but now we’re getting an entire spin-off devoted to paying tribute to a classic Mickey game. Sadly, it’s not Mickey Mania. But, it’s probably the next best thing.

3DS spin-off Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion is going to be a spiritual sequel to Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, a classic Genesis title. The Castle itself has fallen into the Wasteland, and the evil witch and antagonist of the original Castle of Illusion, Mizrabel (who is totally not the evil queen from Snow White, nope nope nope) is trying to absorb the energy of still-famous cartoons to escape the Wasteland.

Players will be able to draw 2D creations which will become 3D on the 3DS’ top screen. Screenshots already reveal the titular Beast from Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan and Captain Hook. And… WAIT A MINUTE IS THAT SCROOGE MCDUCK?! You know what? Forget it. Forget this preview. I’m buying this game day one. If it’s the closest thing I’m going to get to another DuckTales game, that’s fine by me.

Being developed by DreamRift in collaboration with Junction Point, Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion will launch this fall, alongside Epic Mickey 2.
