The other night, trolling around Facebook, I spotted a hilarious video of a group of ladies from the L2D4 (Ladies 2 Die 4) Community. A video making fun of the guys they encounter on a regular basis while gaming. I arranged a meeting with these fantastic gamers to get a bit of background on the video and on these fierce ladies as well. It was an honor to have the opportunity to chat with Lovely 2 Die 4, Vixen 2 Die 4, Cherry 2 Die 4, and RzrXKissX2Die4.
Squishy: “What, exactly, is ‘Ladies 2 Die 4′?”
Lovely 2 Die 4: “Ladies 2 Die 4 is a group of females. A community for Female gamers, creating a fun environment for ladies to game together. Don’t get me wrong, we love our guys. It’s just nice to have a ‘Girls Night’, where girls can game together and have a good time.”
Vixen 2 Die 4: “We are here to game and we enjoy gaming. We are a clan and a community. The best of both worlds.”
Squishy: “How did Ladies 2 Die 4 Start? How long ago?
Cherry 2 Die 4: “The group formed back when Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007) was new. A small group of ladies, including Princess 2 Die 4, decided to start a gaming community. It started as a dream for Princess’ that she made a reality”
Squishy: “What Platforms do you all play on?”
Lovely 2 Die 4: “Ps3 and XBOX360, officially. We do have some ladies that play on the PC, but we don’t have a division for them”
Squishy: “What gave you the idea to make this video? How long did it take?”
Vixen 2 Die 4: “We were seeing a whole bunch of videos online like these ‘Shit girls say” and Mommy 2 Die 4 came up with the idea to make our own funny version. It was so much fun! Cherry and Lovely had me dying laughing! Every time I watched it, I just died laughing!”
Lovely 2 Die 4: “We get a lot of comments online from guys. We just decided to exaggerate it and have fun with it.”
Cherry 2 Die 4: “It didn’t take long to get it done either. Everyone submitted their videos within a few days and we edited it within 2-3 days. Editing took the longest, cause I couldn’t stop laughing. I hated to cut anything out! It was all too funny! After that, we just had to get approval and get it online.”
Squishy: “What reactions have you had to the video from inside and outside of the community?”
Cherry 2 Die 4: ” Most girls think it’s hilarious. Some guys take it too seriously. Most people like it”
Lovely 2 Die 4: “All the ones I have talked to think it’s funny. We commented that we understand that not all guys act like that. “
Vixen 2 Die 4: “For the most part, people love it. At school, I have seen people watching it. Everybody loved it.”
Squishy: “What is your general reaction to guys harassing you online? Do you mute, yell, laugh, return the insults…?”
Lovely 2 Die 4: “That depends on my mood, whether I am in a playful mood or not. Sometimes I joke back with them. Other times I just say ‘Good game’. If they get too bad I hit mute and ignore them.”
Vixen 2 Die 4: “If they have a blight attitude, I don’t entertain it. If it isn’t too disrespectful, we will joke back. I’ll say, “say something new!” or “Check out our video, I think you’re in it!”. I don’t get negative back though.”
Cherry 2 Die 4: “I don’t want to give the Ladies 2 Die 4 a negative image. I don’t get rude or malicious comments, generally funny or playful. Mostly they are just trying to get a rise out of you.”
Lovely 2 Die 4: “After the game it gets quiet.”
Vixen: “Our trash talk is in the way we game, not in talking. In game when they can’t hear us, however, is a different story.”
RzrxKissx2Die4: “I don’t want to give us a negative name either. I don’t talk smack, or mute them. I tell them to ‘go make me a sammich’. It’s all fun and games.”
Squishy: “Considering the statistics of the increased numbers of female gamers, does it seem ridiculous to you that guys still respond like that to a female online?”
Vixen 2 Die 4: “It’s a stigma, but rising numbers is changing attitudes.”
Lovely 2 Die 4: “A lot of people treat us differently. It is still unusual to encounter a girl gaming online. You may only see one girl a night, maybe not even that. Anything different is going to get that negative attention, it’s expected.”
Squishy: “What opportunities does Ladies 2 Die 4 give other female gamers to join in the community?”
Lovely 2 Die 4: “Although we aren’t recruiting right now, we always make it a point to get to know the girls in the community. So, when we are ready, we already know some of the girls that we can allow to join. It is a process to join in. We hold tryouts, but not just about how well you game, but how well your attitude and personality meshes with ours. Then there is a recruit stage where we see how well it is working out and how active you are, this usually lasts about 2 weeks. Then you are in! We also have a group for the guys ‘Die for my ladies’. Even if you aren’t part of the community, we have our website and forums. We are always gaming with outsiders, to get to know them. Go to Die4Us.com and check us out. “
Squishy: “What opportunities have the Ladies 2 Die 4 gotten as a result of being in the community?”
RzrxKissx2Die4: “Girls in the community have gotten lots of opportunities. One example; Unicorn 2 Die 4 works for G4TV now. There are a ton of opportunities to get into the gaming industry”
Squishy: “How many different places are there people in the Ladies 2 Die 4 community?”
Lovely 2 Die 4: “We are in Ireland, Sweden, U.S.A, Canada, U.K., Germany, Japan, Amsterdam… Everywhere.
Squishy: “I gotta ask. You mentioned that you were there for the movie “noobz”… How did that happen? How was it? Who all was involved?”
Lovely 2 Die 4: “They were looking for people and the rep. got a hold of Princess 2 Die 4, to see if any of us would be able to make it. Myself and another girl were able to go. We were there for 3 days for the Championship Scene. I can’t say anymore, but I hope everyone loves the movie. It is absolutely hilarious!”
